The Tuna of Marzamemi is one of the oldest and most important in Sicily. For private and public events, the Loggia and the courtyard of the Palazzo dei Principi Bonaccorsi di Reburdone are available. The lodge, the environment that originally served as a shelter to the large boats of the Tonnara, the "scieri", is a single large room of about 750 square meters, crossed by ancient arches of tuff and overlooking the sea and the old fishing harbor . At the Loggia there are the services and spaces for catering. The Loggia communicates directly with the private courtyard that, through the ancient door, opens onto the magnificent Piazza Regina Margherita, the center of the small village of Marzamemi. Under the trees of the courtyard and in the adjoining rooms, events can be integrated with further occasions for meetings and conviviality.
2 –Palace of Villadorata
The palace of Villadorata rises in 1752 at the behest of the prince and stands on the west side of Piazza Regina Margherita. All around the old fishermen's houses. Built in sandstone, Villadorata's house looks like a simple façade, with a wooden entrance door whose portal is represented by an arch, with a key in the middle with the family crest, surmounted by ancient gutters in stone depicting human faces. At the top of the building we see a small tower with loopholes, decorated with pinnacles and various bas-reliefs depicting geometric patterns. This tower, once used to remove any attacks on the village from pirate ships, later became the summer terrace of the Villadorata family. The internal light point of the entire structure consists of the elegant courtyard; from here a two-step stone staircase leads to the prince's rooms. Today this courtyard is used for the Frontier Film Festival, for the annual event "Calici di Stelle" and numerous municipal events. On the back we find a second terrace that overlooked the "Camperia", the warehouse of the Tonnara. From here the prince, looking out, observed the work of the fishermen. The interior of the Camperia can now be visited: inside there are the "scieri", ancient tuna fishing boats, and ancient tools used by fishermen. The interior of the building was full of works of art, silver and fine furniture. Unfortunately during the Second World War, the prince's apartments were looted. Today the building is used as a location for numerous events, advertising spots and film shoots, such as "Sud" by Gabriele Salvadores or the more recent "Caravaggio".
3 – Millstone of Rudinì
The Millstone of Rudinì is located exactly opposite the port, it indicates the place where the grapes are pressed after harvest, the must then be transformed into wine. Just look at the dimensions of this Palmento to understand how the area around Marzamemi, Pachino, Portopalo, Rosolini, Noto, was dedicated to this product. It was built in the second half of the nineteenth at the behest of the Marquis Di Rudinì precisely. The shape is that of a single-aisle basilica and it is together with those of Trapani and Marsala, one of the largest palmenti of the island. From here the vineyards of Rosso, Nero d'Avola etc. they were crushed and the must was either stored or directly embarked for the great requests coming from Northern Italy and France, which have always been knowers of the product and of the excellent qualities that were possible in this area. There were pipes that made the difference in height, that everything arrived directly on board. The wine or the must of these lands was then used to cut less full-bodied and intense wines, one of them, the Nero d'Avola was one of those wines that lent itself to this kind of operations. Il Palmento will abandon its function as a wine hub after World War II, but will be restored later. Today it has become a point of reference for festivals, tastings, events with enogastronomic and artistic themes.
4 –Small island Brancati
Looking out over the Ionian Sea, off the port of Marzamemi, you can see a small island called "Isola Brancati" or "Isola Piccola". The Brancati island is private and belongs to the Raffaele Brancati pachino. To occupy the entire perimeter of the islet is a small red villa, surrounded by a sparse vegetation. The island Brancati is located under the administration of Pachino, 3 km away from Marzamemi and derives its name from the name of the writer and playwright Vitaliano Brancati, of Pachino origin, who seems to have stayed right on this island.
